Every client is different, every day is different – we love our jobs.
Andrew has over 30 years’ experience in marketing and communications across branding, design and print. Alongside his brother Stuart, Andrew has grown the family business from a creative design agency to providing a full portfolio of marketing services across the five divisions of Barley House Group. Andrew is a natural ideas man with seemingly endless enthusiasm. He is self-motivated and a motivator; a team player and a team leader. He truly believes in brand and has built his business by practicing what he preaches in marketing. Outside of work, Andrew is a keen runner, cyclist and gardener. He enjoys the occasional ski trip and tries to keep up with his two daughters, who seem far more control on the slopes than their father.
Alongside brother Andrew, Stuart has over 30 years’ experience working in design and print at Baines, Barley Print and the Barley House Group. He is passionate about all things creative, from graphic design to interiors and landscape gardening and loves the skill and art of traditional typography. His work these days is more involved in the strategic development of the Group, bringing together design, litho printing, large format digital print and exhibition displays, but he still relishes his oversight of client projects. Stuart enjoys spending time with family, cooking, running, renovating old properties and the occasional game of golf. He also finds time for the odd glass of wine.
Alastair began his career in the bindery of a commercial printer following a college work placement. Since then he has worked as a press assistant and a pre-press operator before becoming a creative artworker. With his combination of over 10 years in this role and many years in the print industry, Alastair has a unique perspective and insight into what makes for successful design in print. Alastair is known for his can-do attitude and proactive approach to problem solving; his is often the voice of reason within the office! He enjoys keeping up-to-date with the latest industry techniques, innovations and trends. His love for all things ‘tech’ spills into his personal life and he is an advocate of all things Apple. Away from the Studio, Alastair can be found with his head buried in the latest crime thriller, catching up on Netflix or planning his next far-flung holiday. Our Anglo-Germanic espresso addict thrives on attention to detail and bringing some order to proceedings.
Dan has extensive experience designing for a range of media and sectors, from packaging and campaigns for a pharmaceutical company to print and web in the entertainment and music industry. He is a fan of clean and functional design and thinks the best thing about his job is creating something new every day and being inspired by life and nature. A season-ticket holder at Spurs, when Dan is not at a match he spends time with his young son and family.
Katie is a typography enthusiast – she has a particular fondness for a lower case ‘g’. She has been a creative force in our studio for over a decade and her motto is "less is more" in design terms. She loves working with clients who know what they want to achieve, and she has the design expertise to bring it to fruition. Katie loves cleaning, washing and early mornings so much she became a mum to two children and it seems no one makes her cry or laugh more. She still makes time for her avid reading habit and indulges in the usual suspects from time to time (shoes, wine, chocolate).
Paul has lived and breathed Barley House Group for seven years and is the first point of contact for all Baines clients. He has an overview of every project he’s involved with and ensures the best of our team is working with the best of yours. Paul is happy when our clients are happy! When Paul isn’t spending time with his family or watching classic films (Laurel and Hardy are particular favourites) he takes every opportunity to go running, improving his personal best at 10K as well as doing the occasional half marathon and more for charity.
Carole joined us in 2015 after many years working in new business development and account management and is a catalyst in our team. She has worked with a variety of clients within the design, corporate and commercial sectors, bringing a wealth of knowledge about print formats, materials and finishes for all your requirements. As the initial and ongoing contact for clients, she enjoys finding out all there is to know about each one and working in partnership with them. Carole is our client champion: attention to detail is her mantra, ensuring every aspect of your project is delivered on time and on budget. Away from work, Carole loves nothing better than to relax on a beach, playing ‘competitive’ Scrabble with her husband. Her favourite quote is: "Women are like teabags. You don’t know how strong they are until you put them in hot water." Eleanor Roosevelt
Sarah joined Barley House Group early in 2016 and works with Katrina in the busy production office, co-ordinating the production elements of each project for our clients whether it be content, design, display or print. She enjoys the challenge of the role but loves to get creative whenever the opportunity rises. After doing a floristry and balloon artistry course she created a balloon arch in her previous company for St Patrick's Day, so we're expecting great things! Sarah is a little obsessed with penguins - she's adopted one (Flipper) and obviously her favourite film is Happy Feet. Her day is brightened by Jaffa cakes and singing (presumably not at the same time). She also loves shopping and Christmas is her absolute favourite time of year.
Since graduating from Chester University with a Graphic Design degree, Corrina has worked as a print finisher and account manager at a print and design company as well as managing design for a global exhibition company. She joined the Baines studio in 2014 and works on, among a host of other things, branding and rebranding organisations, designing campaigns and magazine design. Corrina enjoys meeting clients and building a relationship with them to help them to achieve their goals, as well as working with a lovely team who make her laugh on a daily basis. Corrina is an outdoor girl at heart, going on long walks or mountain climbs with her husband and Sprocker dog Chester. She also likes travelling, soaking up culture and going to the Glastonbury Festival. She's taken up calligraphy and loves learning new skills, from life drawing and photography to wood and flower craft.
Graphic Design graduate James joined our busy studio in 2016 having previously worked for the largest charity sportswear supplier in the UK, designing over a third of all the running vests used for the 2015 London Marathon! He's a creative thinker who enjoys meeting clients and diving into new projects. In his spare time, James creates and collaborates on art and film projects for the web, and the boy's got rhythm, playing drums in a blues band.
Karen is the first person you'll meet when you visit, giving a warm welcome to everyone at Barley House. She has been the helpful voice on the end of the phone for over six years and enjoys regular contact with clients and suppliers alike, building relationships and finding solutions with her can-do approach! Karen could be described as the lynch-pin of Barley House Group, issuing invoices, co-ordinating deliveries, managing the office and assisting with production management. In her spare time, Karen is currently enjoying renovating her house. She also loves hunting for bargains at auctions and antique fairs, seeing live music and comedy and eating out.
After completing an Art Foundation course at the London College of Communication, Jo joined us as a junior artworker. She thinks the best thing about her job is the creative, supportive and fun team of designers and artworkers in the studio. Jo is also our in-house photographer, and has done a product photography course to provide us with plenty of images of our client projects, display and print items. Jo is the biggest fan of Game of Thrones that we know - avid is not really the word. She also enjoys going to the cinema, playing badminton and decorating the studio with the paper cranes she can often be found making.
Katrina works alongside Sarah in our busy production office, ensuring the production process runs smoothly for every client and every project. Prior to joining us she worked in production roles in marketing agencies and in publishing, as well as office management, and enjoys the atmosphere and creativity of our industry. Katrina's favourite place is New York City but she enjoys all travelling and particularly exploring new cities. She is a keen theatre goer and embraces any opportunity to sing at karaoke, as well as spending time with her family and indulging her love of LUSH cosmetics.
